About
The Department of Agricultural Biotechnology started education with 16 students in 2009-2010 within the scope of additional quota and gave its first graduates in the 2012-2013 academic year. Currently, our department continues its educational activities with 1 Professor, 4 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors, 1 Doctor Research Assistant.
The Department of Agricultural Biotechnology works together with other departments in the Faculty of Agriculture and scientists from different fields on undergraduate education and scientific research.
Undergraduate education is 8 semesters (4 years). The student has to complete 150 credits (240 ECTS) courses and a 30-day internship training. Those who successfully complete their education are awarded the "Agricultural Engineer" undergraduate diploma. The graduate student receives the title of "Agricultural Biotechnologist".
Mission; To provide qualified education and training services, to train well-equipped and self-confident Agricultural Engineers, and to conduct applied research with high added value, taking into account the developments in the world, our country's priorities and needs, who produce and train internationally in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology, have interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding, to develop advanced technologies.
Vision; By producing information and providing education at universal standards, the professional and general culture that Turkey needs is rich, has at least one foreign language knowledge, at a level to use that language in written and oral form, is open to innovations and has sufficient criticism power, is as international as its environment and country. is to train Agricultural Engineers who are also sensitive to problems, who follow the world and country issues as an intellectual, and who think universally.
· Plant Biotechnology Sub-department: To create useful, resistant and durable products, to increase agricultural production, yield, quality, diversity, to create suitable commercial plant varieties by working on the DNA, gene regions, cells of plants at the molecular level and their cultures, organs and tissues at the macro level. thus, it aims to contribute to the welfare of the society.
· Animal Biotechnology Sub-department: It aims to operate in the fields of science where techniques such as artificial insemination, embryo transfer, microinjection into the cell nucleus, gene transfer, cloning, molecular breeding, gene detection are applied in order to protect the animal species whose products are used, and to develop features such as superior productivity, resistance to diseases and pests. . In addition, nutrigenomic applications to increase the performance of farm animals, feeding applications to improve resistance or immunity to diseases and the development of functional animal products are investigated.
Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology Sub-department: Before being transported to large-scale industries and factories, the purification and characterization of enzymes with agricultural value, their production by microorganisms, the optimization of the environmental conditions that will enable the development and production of various properties, and the silage used in the nutrition of farm animals. such as researching microorganisms or producing new inoculants, etc. aims to study the subjects.
Employment Opportunities
They can find jobs in universities, public and private sectors, in any institution where plant and animal microbiological productions and research are carried out, in animal and plant breeding workplaces.
Those who want to be a researcher, lecturer and lecturer are required to do postgraduate education.
People can start their own business in relevant non-governmental organizations
In recycling and biogas plants
Being a new branch in our country and increasing job opportunities in parallel with the developments in the field of agricultural biotechnology in recent years will lead to the emergence of new fields.
