Cities Without Thirst: Drought-Resilient Landscapes for the Future of Water and the Turkey Water Atlas Programme
The event entitled "Cities Without Thirst: Drought-Resilient Landscapes for the Future of Water and the Turkey Water Atlas", was held on 9 June 2026 at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s Beştepe Campus in Ankara Province. The event was attended by a large number of participants, including the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr İbrahim YUMAKLI, heads of institutions and organisations, university rectors, academic staff, and representatives from the private sector. Our University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kasım KARAHOCAGİL, and Dr Derya DURAN GÖKALP, a Lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture at our Faculty, attended the programme organised by the General Directorate of Water Management. In addition to information provided on the development stages of the Turkey Water Atlas, attention was drawn to the management of water resources for our country. In light of the effects of global climate change on the world and water resources, the importance of xeriscape in open and green space landscape applications was emphasised. In the afternoon session of the programme, Xeriscape workshop sessions were organised with members of the eight designated Ecological Regions, including academic staff, institutional heads and private sector representatives, to discuss woody ornamental plants for outdoor use in horticultural designs.
